Valentine's TC 5K Race Recap!

I meant to do this post on Friday, but I was busy packing and getting ready for a leadership retreat! So here it is!!!!

One of my Christmas presents was being registered for the Valentine's TC 5K in Minneapolis with my running buddy Rebecca (since my mom saved $6 registering both of us)! Like I had said before, this race sort of just crept up on me!!!
Pre-Race photo!
The race was around Lake Harriet where we ran the Reindeer Run back in December, so we knew exactly what to expect for parking and the course. We arrived an hour and a half early, so we parked right upfront pretty much next to the starting line! We were sooo glad that we had time to get our shirt, hat, and socks before the crowds arrived...and take a ton of pre race photos while we kept warm in the car :)

Gangsta...or trying to be

Dance party

Just being silly
We headed to the start line and "Cupid" blew the horn for the race to start. We waited on the side for the faster runners to pass before hopping in right before the walkers. I thought we would run the first part of the race and then walk most of the way (since both of us hadn't really been training) but Rebecca wanted to do some interval work, so I agreed.

The course was actually cleared of snow and pretty flat so it was a fairly nice and relaxing run/walk. This race was definitely smaller than the Reindeer Run, which was nice since we could enjoy the course instead of having to move and be crowded by others throughout the run. I loved that we could actually take in the scenery (along with the interesting attire some people where wearing).
Yeah...okay
This race was super cute since they gave us pre made Valentine's that said "your pace or mine?" and a cup of those hearts with the sayings during the last .01 miles of the race! I thoroughly enjoyed the hearts as I ran!!

We finished in 46:34 which was awesome since the last 5K we did in December was in the upper 57 minutes and some odd seconds. I think a lot of our better time had to do with having the course cleared of snow, though we were both excited!

The free food afterward was definitely not as much as we received at the Reindeer Run. They had water, Old Dutch potato chips, Salted Nut Rolls, bananas, and heart shaped iced bakery cookies. I think the reason they didn't have as much food wise is because with our registration we got a hat, socks and a technical long sleeve shirt!! Rebecca and I really like that this race was less congested and it especially helped since we had run our first race there!
The swag! A technical T!
The only downfall: I did not find a Valentine :( but there were a couple of very cute firefighters running in their gear ;)

  6. Great job, Stephanie! I used to do this race when I was living in Minneapolis, and this exact course still holds my 5k PR! It was fun reading your report of a race I'm so familiar with.. and great job cutting off so much time!
