Valentine's TC 5K Race Recap!

I meant to do this post on Friday, but I was busy packing and getting ready for a leadership retreat! So here it is!!!!

One of my Christmas presents was being registered for the Valentine's TC 5K in Minneapolis with my running buddy Rebecca (since my mom saved $6 registering both of us)! Like I had said before, this race sort of just crept up on me!!!
Pre-Race photo!
The race was around Lake Harriet where we ran the Reindeer Run back in December, so we knew exactly what to expect for parking and the course. We arrived an hour and a half early, so we parked right upfront pretty much next to the starting line! We were sooo glad that we had time to get our shirt, hat, and socks before the crowds arrived...and take a ton of pre race photos while we kept warm in the car :)

Just being silly
We headed to the start line and "Cupid" blew the horn for the race to start. We waited on the side for the faster runners to pass before hopping in right before the walkers. I thought we would run the first part of the race and then walk most of the way (since both of us hadn't really been training) but Rebecca wanted to do some interval work, so I agreed.

The course was actually cleared of snow and pretty flat so it was a fairly nice and relaxing run/walk. This race was definitely smaller than the Reindeer Run, which was nice since we could enjoy the course instead of having to move and be crowded by others throughout the run. I loved that we could actually take in the scenery (along with the interesting attire some people where wearing).
This race was super cute since they gave us pre made Valentine's that said "your pace or mine?" and a cup of those hearts with the sayings during the last .01 miles of the race! I thoroughly enjoyed the hearts as I ran!!

We finished in 46:34 which was awesome since the last 5K we did in December was in the upper 57 minutes and some odd seconds. I think a lot of our better time had to do with having the course cleared of snow, though we were both excited!

The free food afterward was definitely not as much as we received at the Reindeer Run. They had water, Old Dutch potato chips, Salted Nut Rolls, bananas, and heart shaped iced bakery cookies. I think the reason they didn't have as much food wise is because with our registration we got a hat, socks and a technical long sleeve shirt!! Rebecca and I really like that this race was less congested and it especially helped since we had run our first race there!
The swag! A technical T!
The only downfall: I did not find a Valentine :( but there were a couple of very cute firefighters running in their gear ;)

Uhhh...kinda just crept up on me!

Well I had a busy weekend! Since I paint for a job at school my pregnant sister in Rochester asked if I would like to paint the baby boy's nursery...and because I love to paint soooo much I agreed!! My brother, sister-in-law and nephews joined us on Saturday for a great weekend of family bonding (I'm sad that I didn't take more pictures of the actual bonding :( .The theme for the room is JUNGLE!!!!
This is the thing that hangs on the side of the crib
We went to an indoor garage sale at the Armory, which was a change of pace since it's not even garage sale season...countdown about 2 1/2 more months until warmer weather!
Closet full of baby boy will definitely fill up after the baby shower!

We thought the yellow color really made the quilt thingy pop!

They are planning on putting a bamboo looking wallpaper on the bottom half of the wall (just so you don't think we forgot the bottom half!).
My sister and bro-in-law also did some work on the downstairs bathroom
I wish I would have gotten a picture of my sister's growing belly! She really has gotten bigger since I saw her a few weeks ago!

Along with being super productive with housework and painting, we planned my sister's baby shower, which will be the first weekend in April!!!!!! AND IT"S JUNGLE THEMED!!! My sis-in-law is going to make a animal print fondant cake kind of like this:
She's definitely going to do the cute saying on the tree too!

Oh and the little tidbit of information I forgot Valentine's 5K this weekend around Lake Harriet in Minneapolis! I've been sooo busy with this semester starting up that I have to keep reminding myself that it's this weekend! The past few weeks I've been getting on the treadmill a few times a week for about 30 mins, but my running buddy Rebecca and I are thinking we're going to walk the majority of it (since she has been bogged down with projects and hasn't been running much).

I'm super excited for the 5K though! It's Valentine's themed and the event website says that you can wear different colors or signs designating if you are "single", "taken", or "it's complicated."

It shall be fun to participate in....and maybe I'll even find a Valentine ;)
