Thoughtful Thursday!

My face painting from Witches Night Out
Oh thank goodness it's Thursday! Does anyone else feel like this week was dragging on?! I think the no class thing on Wednesday really messed with the timing. I haven't done any outside exercise because of the windiness and the rain, so I've been cooped up for the past few days! I'm planning on getting back to running tomorrow!

I had such a fun time tonight with my sorority sisters at Witches Night Out! It's a celebration downtown with about 15 stores where they have specials and sales while offering appetizers and hot beverages all for free! I even got my face painted! Made me feel like a little kid again :)

So here's what I'm thinking about for the weekend:
  1. My sister and brother-in-law are having a Halloween Bash this Saturday in Rochester, MN so I'm super excited! I'm not sure what my costume is yet, but my friend and I are going to scramble and do something last minute! I'll post pictures when I get back!
  2. I have a midterm presentation and a 3-4 page paper for Organizational Leadership on Monday and a Business Finance test that day as well! Of course this would only happen on Halloween weekend!
  3. I'm ACTIVELY looking for business administration/human resource internships! I'm currently looking online, but if anyone has any suggestions of finding something, I'll take it into consideration.
  4. Hopefully the weather this weekend will be nice. I see it's supposed to be clear skies and a little warmer at least on Saturday (I only know this because we may have a bonfire at my sister's).
Here's pictures from the past couple days. Enjoy:
Creepy fake bed at Fleet Farm with Justin Bieber and Taylor Lautner posters! And a creepy child size doll tucked in with an eye mask!!!!

PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE THIS OUT!

I've been looking up online how to do some of these things, but I'm not good with HTML codes! PLEASE HELP!
  1. Okay so I don't like the white borders around my pictures! How do I fix this?!
  2. I want to customize my blog head with my own pictures. How do I do this?

Oh the weather outside is frightful...

All bundled up for the weather
...but the fire is so delightful (I only wish my townhouse had a fireplace, but it stays pretty warm without the heat on). This rainy, windy weather is so miserable! I didn't want to risk bringing an umbrella to work and class, so I nixed the idea and good thing I did! I would have been Mary Poppins flying away with my umbrella, haha! On my way up to class it felt like they're was a tornado coming because it was soooo windy! Good thing I don't to leave the house anymore today (well maybe a short walk tonight...only if the wind dies down a bit), but I have a paper to start and a midterm to study for on Thursday.

More reading to catch up on!
My class from 3-5:45pm was canceled so I figured blogging would give me some sort of distraction from the looming homework that I must start once I finish this! One thing good that has happened today is that my Fitness magazine came except for the fact that I haven't gotten a chance to catch up on last month's issue. This is true too for my Cosmo subscription (I'm about 3 issues behind). I've been so busy with school, blogging, and reading blogs that I've forgotten all about my magazine!

Rainy+Windy=One gloomy day and an over the top run!

At the start of the trail
I woke up bright not so bright and early this morning at 6:30am. When the sun rose hid behind the clouds, I knew that the whole day was going to be gloomy. Classes were the usual and my 2 hour shift at work was slow. I enjoyed applying to jobs which wore me out, so I took an hour nap and when I woke up it was just starting to drizzle. My running partner and I were planning on running around 4 pm, so we headed down to the trail with the drizzle still continuing. "WE ARE DEDICATED" as I kept saying. "We need to train in all elements!" We did the usual 5 minute warm up and then we did something we haven't done before...we just ran until we felt like we couldn't run anymore. Well we only ran for 7 minutes straight and then walked the rest of the way to the 1 mile sign. We continued walking and then ended up running for about 6 more minutes towards the end. Though we were both kinda miserable running in the drizzle, we both felt AMAZING!!
Gloomy, gloomy day

Tonight I was supposed to start on my Organizational Leadership group paper, but I'm going to leave that until tomorrow when my night class is canceled! Lots of homework to do before Thursday though our school is GENIUS and gives us Advisement Day, where we don't have any classes and you meet with your advisor about your schedule next semester. Advisement Day is a Stout tradition where many kids end up going out and sleep in the next day, though sadly this year I will be working a 4 hour shift then working on homework :(

It's still raining, so I'm headed to bed and I can sleep in tomorrow until 8:30am(oh so late! Can you sense the sarcasm?!). I'm going to let the drizzling rain on my window lull me to sleep! Good night, happy running :)

My continued love of PUMPKINS!

You are all so lucky to be hearing from me two days in a row!! But remember it's only because I am doing NOTHING (besides homework) this weekend! I even took a "personal" day from school (well not really: my 8am class was optional and for my 9:05am class I was planning on going, but I woke up with a major headache and body aches so I headed back to bed). I was just thinking about how many pumpkin things I have and gathered them all (pictured below fun facts)
I thought these were cute!
So in honor of my mild love and obsessiveness about PUMPKINS here's some fun facts:
A pumpkin is really a squash?
It is! It's  a member of the Cucurbita family which includes squash and cucumbers.

That pumpkins are grown all over the world?
Six of the seven continents can grow pumpkins including Alaska! Antarctica is the only continent that they won't grow in.

That the "pumpkin capital" of the world is Morton, Illinois?
This self proclaimed  pumpkin capital is where you'll find the home of the Libby corporation's pumpkin industry.

That the  Irish brought this tradition of pumpkin carving to America?
The tradition originally started with the carving of turnips. When the Irish immigrated to the U.S., they found pumpkins a plenty and they were much easier to carve for their ancient holiday.

Fun Facts About The Pumpkin!
  • Pumpkins contain potassium and Vitamin A.
  • The largest pumpkin pie ever made was over five feet in diameter and weighed over 350 pounds. It used 80 pounds of cooked pumpkin, 36 pounds of sugar, 12 dozen eggs and took six hours to bake.
  • In early colonial times, pumpkins were used as an ingredient for the crust of pies, not the filling.
  • Pumpkins were once recommended for removing freckles and curing snake bites.
  • The largest pumpkin ever grown weighed 1,140 pounds.
  • The Connecticut field variety is the traditional American pumpkin.
  • Pumpkins are 90 percent water.
  • Eighty percent of the pumpkin supply in the United States is available in October.

Everything in my life that is pumpkin! Slight obsession!

Thoughtful Thursday!!!!

Ugh another pumpkin pie blizzard!
IT'S THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY...AND IT'S ON TIME! So the homework gods have given me a temporary break tonight with homework so you get rewarded with this post!!

We had meet Big Sis tonight for sorority and it's been a long time coming, since the beginning of September! All the Big Sises(sp?) went and hid in separate rooms and the little sises had to solve a riddle to come find us! I was hiding in the dark and I think my Little Jenny was a little freaked out! But anyway we exchanged gifts and took some "family" pictures!

Big(Me) and Little(Jenny
I don't have too many thoughts for this weekend because I've committed to doing NOTHING with my roommate Shayna! We are going to catch up on some movies, sit around in sweats, and do our homework. This weekend is much needed since I've been running around the past 3 weekends!

  1. I'm so excited to catch up on homework and do NOTHING(besides a run tomorrow afternoon)! I probably won't even shower (ew gross, I know) but I'm going to be a couch potato!
  2. My big brother is running a marathon this weekend in Mankato, MN so I wish him the best of luck! I would love to go, but with my schedule this past month I need a weekend off. He's going to do amazing and I can't wait to hear how he does!
  3. I have a group midterm looming over my head and it's due on October 29th, so some of this weekend will be used to work on that. I hate group projects, especially when the professor doesn't give you time to work on it IN CLASS! But I guess I have to deal with it and suck it up! Oh and I have a business finance take home test that's due on Monday, so my weekend away will be spent working on that,UGH!!
  4. This 3rd bullet point is unnecessary because I've already mentally checked out for the weekend!
Enjoy whatever your heart desires this weekend, I know I'm looking forward to my relaxing weekend!

Weekend recap (as promised) and goofy running!

Running buddy...she secretly hated me today!
Stretching after a hard workout!
First off I met up with my running buddy down at the trail! We did the usual 1 mile down and back, but I had warned her that I was planning on stepping it up and really challenging ourselves! I thoroughly enjoyed the hard work out because our 5k is getting closer and closer, but we have to start increasing our actual running minutes. I was in charge of the stopwatch so there would be times where I would say we were running for 2 1/2 minutes and we would actually run for 3 1/2 to 4 minutes (muhahahaha...*evil laugh*). I felt like a drill sergent, but I had warned Rebecca before we left. At the end we were both exhausted, which is such a good thing!!!! I honestly felt like we accomplished a new feat. And it only starts from today, so in my future runs I need to stay focused and I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

As I've been promising for like 4-5 days, I finally had time tonight to add the photos from the weekend of one of my oldest friends wedding (we've been friends for 18 years!).

Monday Funday!

Taking a break on the bridge
Time for some Monday Funday!!! This day for some reason has dragged on since the moment I woke up at 6:30am for class! I feel like it should be 2am and I should be sound asleep!

I ran today by myself. My running buddy had a group meeting, so we rescheduled for Wednesday! The usual trail was less busy today since I went earlier in the afternoon and about half a mile down I got the beejesus scared out of me! Since the leaves are all crunchy you can hear every little movement I heard this huge commotion coming down the hill. All of a sudden I see this guy with a black jacket on and sunglasses standing on the trail. My stomach jumped into my throat! He looked kind of menacing so I slowed and pretended like I was texting and taking pictures of the trees. Then this girl comes crawling down the hill too, so I was a little relieved! Though I was still trying to calm myself down from this abrupt end. I decided to turn around after they started walking the other way only exercising for about 19 minutes. Even though I had that little scare it was great to hear the leaves crunch under my feet and I also heard a wood pecker. I wasn't expecting to see a wood pecker and had such a hard time finding out where it was!

BBQ Chicken Pizza (2 pieces down)
Who would have thought there was a B&B ?

I came home and made some bbq chicken pizza! I used the packaged dough where you add water and had some left over green peppers that needed to be taken care of, so the recipe was simple! And delicious!!! I also enjoyed a pumpkin bar that my mom made this past weekend!!

Oh, so I will update about my friend's wedding tomorrow or Wednesday after I download my pictures!!

Not so thoughtful Thursday!

Ok so I officially suck at doing my Thoughtful Thursday posts, but here it 2 days late!!!

  1. I'm at home this weekend for one of my oldest friend's wedding! We've been friends since we were 3 so it's been 18 years of friendship! This date came so fast considering she got engaged the summer of 2009! Best wishes to Becky and Mark!!!
  2. I'm missing my senior year homecoming with my sorority, roommates, and all my college friends! Homecoming is kind of a big deal especially for my sorority so I was bummed I couldn't be there, but I'll still be having fun at the wedding tonight. I wish all my Stouties a fun and safe homecoming!
  3. I have a bunch of business finance homework to do before Monday!! I already finished the book questions now all I have to do is the 6 part problem my professor wrote up!! I hate it when professors load up the homework on the weekends, especially homecoming weekend!
Tons of geese! Not a rare sight back at home!
I did end up going on my run last night around the neighborhood! It's definitely a different experience having cars and houses flying by since I'm so used to the secluded trail with it's quietness. The run only totaled about 1.2-1.3 miles but I figured it was better than nothing since I had to run off my DQ chicken strip basket I had on my way home from college! I finished my run faster than last week's run at 16:42:79. I think last week's was in the 17 minute range, so that's a good thing!! Here's some pictures from around the neighborhood:
Uneven road=DANGER!

The Hood!

Monday I will have pictures and tales from my friend's wedding! Have a great rest of the weekend with your training, spending time with family and friends or just relaxing! Keep on running!

Nothing like a little time management!

This is my blog header. All the trees are bare!
I am sooo surprised at my time management skills this week!!! And here I thought I was going to be so busy with homecoming for sorority or homework! With all my cooking and baking yesterday to a blog post in the early evening is a HUGE shock! Today flew by, which is a FANTASTIC thing! I went to class this morning and worked this afternoon, then went to DQ for a small pumpkin pie blizzard with a little whipped cream (I couldn't resist, they're only around for a month so I have to enjoy!).

The fall season is going soo fast!
5 minutes after I finished my blizzard I went to the usual trail to do my 2 miles! That trail was so busy with people out biking, running, taking pictures, and bird watching. Probably the busiest I've ever seen it! This group of cross country girls ran by and I wish I could have enough endurance to do that! SOMEDAY!!! Well anyway I had a great run, I haven't been keeping up with the C25K intervals anymore, just kind of running 2-3 mins and then walking the same amount of time. Though I'm not doing the exact intervals, I feel like I'm going faster than usual since my 1 mile time was a little over 11 minutes. I consider that good since I walked for a good amount of that. My total time was 27:48:26, I believe my fastest time on the trail so far, though I think the blizzard before the run kind of weighed me down.

Tuesdays are productive?!

Slow cooker pork chops and veggies!
Tuesdays are usually my busiest day being gone to work and class from 10am to 5pm, with an hour break in that whole span of time. Now some of you may think that's not long, but in a college students time it's an eternity! Even though it was my busiest day I feel like I was the most productive. I was up at 8am to make some muffins for myself and my lovely roommates (they were just out of the pouch, but hey it's still unusual for me to do something in the morning like that). Another thing I was trying was boned pork chops, carrots, green peppers, sliced potatoes, and cream of mushroom soup in the slow cooker. I found the recipe online and it took 8-10 hours on low, which was perfect considering my schedule. The recipe was delicious, though I'm going to try some other slow cooker recipes with chicken instead.

Yum Pumpkin cookies!!
After looking at pumpkin recipes all day during classes, I got really ambitious and made pumpkin oatmeal raisin cookies during Glee!! I am just craving pumpkin things like no other and these were perfect and they'll last me like a week!!! They will curb my craving that's for sure!! Once Glee was over and the cookies were done, I went for a short 25 minute walk around campus since I had to walk off some of the cookies and the blizzard I ate last night!!

That's all for now, I'll be back tomorrow after I go for my usual run!

My new found love...PUMPKIN!!!

In honor of my new love, pumpkin anything, this post is going to be in orange!!! Well it's not a new found love, but at this time everything can be made into a pumpkin flavor...blizzards, lattes, ice cream, cookies, muffins, pretty much anything under the sun!!! Sometime this week I want to make pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, but who knows when that's going to be since it's Homecoming week at school and I will be busy every night with different events!

Bachelorette Party Attendees!
Well when I posted on Friday I kind of had a damper to my day, but my friend's bachelorette party was sooo much fun! There's a few pictures from the beginning of it, none from my camera of course, though there are no existing pictures of the bars. Don't worry, nothing much happened at the bars besides she went around with a bouquet of suckers and collected money from guys!! Good way to make money! She made about $57 which the asking price was a dollar though some guys gave her $5 or one guy even gave her $10 and didn't even take any suckers!
Anyway I ran today with my running buddy down at the normal trail. We took it pretty slowly since my running buddy has been dealing with a family emergency and my tummy wasn't feeling too well. We did the usual 2 miles in 33:59:28. It was nice to catch up and get a good workout in though it was a little warm still (which doesn't relate well to my pumpkin appetite!). Since this week is going to fly by with homecoming and homework I'm going to run Wednesday and then Friday at home (my friend's wedding is on the 16th).

So if you haven't already got into the fall spirit go out and enjoy the pumpkin flavored treats that are out there! They only come around once a year!!!

Have no idea where this blue stuff came from!
Here's some pictures from my weekend:

Sorry I'm really bad at this!!

My Thoughtful Thursday hasn't been too successful, so here I am again a day late to let you know my thoughts!!!
  1. I'm home this weekend for one of my best friend's bachelorette party (we've been friends for 18 years!) and I can't wait! She says she doesn't want to get too drunk, but that's no fun, especially when you're the bride-to-be! Well if she thinks that she's in for a surprise ;P
  2. The Business Finance test that was looming over my head was taken this past Monday! In no way was I prepared since I was busy all last weekend at my sorority sister's wedding. It didn't turn out too hot, but there's a few more tests so it will even out.
  3. My weekend started off to a rough start! First I was stressed and annoyed with people all week for some reason and then to top it off I got a speeding ticket on my way home! I was going 75 mph in a 65mph...there goes $125 of my poor college student budget!!!! I'm 21 and that's my first speeding ticket since I got my license at 16. Hopefully with the festivities this weekend I will forget all my problems and start fresh!
But I did go for a run around the neighborhood before dinner! I think I only went a little over a mile because my time was 17minutes and some odd seconds! At least it's something though considering I didn't run on Wednesday! So I will be back on Sunday or Monday to let you all know how my weekend turns out!

Hope all your weekends are turning out better than the start of mine! Safe running!

Off to a great start of the week!!

With my business finance test out of the way (bright and early at 8am), I am hopefully free to coast for the week with a few simple assignments!!! I love weeks like this were I can thoroughly enjoy some extra free time! As I posted on Friday night, I had a busy weekend ahead!

Love this center piece!
My sorority sister's wedding was gorgeous! She had an outdoor ceremony, which was a bit chilly, but everything was amazing! The reception, the food, the dancing was awesome! A bunch of my sorority sisters came for the dance, so it was fun busting a move for my exercise. The reason I was busting a move on the dance floor was because I was drinking beer, so I had to work it off some how, haha!

My conch piercing(the stud)
Between the ceremony and reception my cousin and I stopped to get my cartilage pierced! I've wanted this piercing for a while and figured I had the money and time to do it so I did!

If any of you are wondering, my dad did great in his double marathon weekend out in NH and Maine! He was sore, as anyone would be, but he's walking so its all good! Just knowing that he could put his body through that stress is so inspiring!

I went for a little run today! For some reason I was getting super paranoid with all the leaves rustling, and the trail is secluded so I cut my run short and only went for 19:16:48. After coming home I cooked my dinner (I cut onions and got the crying effect, which has never happened before) which was delicious, I felt like I needed to do a little more cardio. I went out for a short walk around campus and was back in 26:19:56. So all together I did 45:36:04 of exercise today which makes up for my slacking on the run! I'm planning on running Wednesday, so let's hope I don't get paranoid anymore!

Kung Pao Chicken(not homemade, seasoning package)
Hope you all are having great Monday evening!

Oh the adventures down at the Red Cedar Trail!!

I meant to start a post on Thursday but I got too busy with sorority stuff. From now on I will have a weekly post called Thoughtful Thursday which will get my thoughts on the weekend ahead!! So here's my late post that I was going to do on Thursday:
  1. I'm wishing my dad the best of luck this weekend on his 2 marathons this weekend! The first one is Saturday in New Hampshire and then he's onto Maine on Sunday!! I'm so jealous I couldn't have traveled with my parents because of school, but I'm there in spirit!! I know he'll do great! And from my mom's texts it sounds like they're having a blast on the NE coast!
  2. I can't wait until Saturday! My Big Sis from my sorority is getting married after three years of engagement!! It's going to be so much, plus I get to see my cousin since she's my date!
  3. A business finance test is looming over my head until Monday morning so I should be studying for that, but I got too busy today and won't be doing anything tomorrow because of the wedding. This means that I will have to be studying all day Sunday, UGH!!!
Hope you all have a great weekend!
Yay 2 miles!!!
So today my running buddy and I headed down to the Red Cedar Trail (the usual) for our run, but we were both exhausted from the week so we decided to be more adventurous!! We walked for the first time to the 2 mile marker in about 50 minutes. As we walked we were both into taking pictures of the fall scenes and did some slight trespassing through a barbed wire fence to get a close up look at some mushrooms! It was sort of rainy and cold while we explored, but nothing was stopping our adventurous selves. We were so into exploring the mile past the usual mile that all 4 miles took us a whopping 82 minutes, so we definitely made up for not running!
Here's the pictures:
Mushrooms in restricted area!
