I'VE BEEN IN HIBERNATION! Now that finals are over with and I'm free of school until January 4th (I'm taking a Winterm class, which shouldn't be too much work!) I will be posting more often!!

My family celebrated Christmas with my Grandma from Montana early last Saturday, so this Christmas Eve and Day will be super weird not opening presents! BUT I did get a new digital camera for an early birthday gift, so now I will be able to share pictures again, whoo hoo!!!! I can't wait to take a ton of pictures with my roommates and friends!!!!

Well this was just a quick post to tell you all that I'm alive, sorry for leaving you hanging for soooo long!!!  I will be posting later tonight or tomorrow and I PROMISE TO BLOG AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK!!!

I'm going to go catch up on my blog reading now...

Reindeer Run 2010 Race Recap

So as many of you know I completed my first 5K this past Saturday in Minneapolis!!! I was super nervous about the race and hadn't been preparing for it since finals are coming up! Well as promised (a day late) here's my recap:

This was my first 5K so everything was a little more stressful than what I was expecting! I'm glad I had my running buddy there to experience it with me and I wouldn't have made it there without her (literally)! We live WI which is about an hour and a half away from Minneapolis, and of course the night before the sky opened up and the Snow Gods blessed us with about 6 inches of the fluffy white stuff! I went to bed about 10:30pm after posting my nervousness on here hoping that the snow would let up enough. I woke up a few times throughout the night, but of course it was not slowing down!

I was up bright snowy and early at 5am since Rebecca was meeting me at 6am to get on the road! We checked the weather and road conditions, decided there was NO WAY this was stopping us, and went outside to wipe off our cars! We both drove since I was going out in the Cities with my family later. The plows were just hitting the freeway so the first 45 minutes was pretty sketchy! I'm not comfortable driving far distances in snow so I followed slowly and we parked my car just across the MN/WI border. The nerves were kicking in even more because of the stressful driving situation and it took us double the amount of time to get to the race start.

We got to the park at about 9am and it was CRAZY!! There really weren't any signs directing us around the couple of lakes for parking purposes and on top of that we had to find parking in the residential area which was CRAZY busy as well! It took Rebecca about 20 minutes to find a parking spot! I met my mom, sister, and brother-in-law at the start/finish line and chatted while we creeped looked at all the costumes.

Rebecca and I started lining up and we waited for the 10 min/mile pacers passed us until we fell into the starting shuffle. My dad caught up with us just as we were passing the clock and snapped a few photos of us! The start was a little INTENSE especially since we had no idea what to expect because it was really packed and people were trying to find their pace while passing all the slower people. To make matters worse, dogs and strollers were allowed so you would have a stroller come barreling by you without notice!!

I was expecting the course to be plowed, but after having so many people running on packed snow, the course turned into that weird kicked-up-slushy-kind of snow. It was hard to run on considering Rebecca and I had never run on that kind of surface since we didn't have any snow when we were training. We set a good pace (slow) and just took in the sites. We walked when we got tired, complained when we were cold, and complained some more! Well to say the least, "We were successful!" When we crossed the finish line the clock read 54 minutes and some odd seconds, but I knew that was way off according to my stopwatch which read 51:43 and some odd seconds! Way way slower than we were both expecting but the course was hard to run on! I know excuses excuses, but at least we set the bar for a really high time so the next 5K we do, we'll be able to get an even better time!

The swag at the finish line was AMAZING!! They had Muscle Milk, Wheaties Energy Bars, Clif and Lara Bars, Salted Nut Rolls, a twin pack of single serving Minute Rice, Bagel Bites, cookies, bananas, apples, lip balm, lotion, water! My parents were amazed at how much there was since my dad does marathons and he said that sometimes he doesn't even get that much at the end!!!

All in all, it was a GREAT first 5K!!! I'm on to finding more for 2011!!!

Reindeer Run 2010 (in pictures)!

I finally ran my 1st 5K!!! It's been a few months leading up to this moment!! So here are the pictures (race recap tomorrow):
Mostly everyone had really fun costumes! My parents took these shots since I don't have a camera :(
My brother-in-law Mike, reindeer mascot, my sister Stacy! This must have been while I was running! Kept them busy!

More costumes! There were actually people who were "presents" and ran with boxes around their bodies!

My brother-in-law Mike, Me, and my sister Stacy before the race! I'm sooo glad they came to support me!

Me and my running buddy Rebecca! Look at our shorts, haha! I look super tired...which happens when you're up at 5am!
Right after Santa said "Ho, Ho, Go!" It took awhile for it to thin out
My dad was partly an unofficial participant in order to get this shot! He literally ran in front of us!

Finishing strong! As you can see the people who were done were walking the opposite way to their cars

Right before crossing the finish line....Almost done!

At the Sculpture Garden in Minneapolis after the race! That's a spoon and a cherry!

I'll recap the whole race in tomorrow's post! Stay tuned!

OMG! Tomorrow is the big day!!

Sorry for being absent this past week! I've been feeling sick to my stomach and have been having headaches frequently...which is a HUGE problem since my first 5K is tomorrow!!!!

I'm getting sort of nervous, just because it's soooo cold out, but I will survive! I'm leaving bright and early tomorrow morning at 6am in order to get to Minneapolis before 8am! If I leave here then I should be at the race site at 7:30 and then t-shirt pickup begins at 8am!

Okay. I'm off to bed since I'm getting up at the super duper early hour of 5am, ugh!!! I'm going to need all the energy I can get tomorrow since I'm going to a Habitat Build tomorrow after my race!

I promise I will not have any REALLY long breaks with my blogging! The semester is coming to a close, meaning I'll have more time=more blogging (and hopefully a new camera!) I'm hating not having a camera to share more pictures!

Well goodnight everyone...Reindeer Run 2010 here I come!

Sunday, November 28, 2010's been a while!

Wowza! It's been a week and two days since I've posted! I went to my aunt's house in Kansas for Thanksgiving and didn't have access to a computer!

First things first....I haven't run since Monday November 15th! That's almost 2 weeks and not a good thing when my first 5K is this Saturday! I'm getting back on track this week so hopefully the weather holds up and I can suck it up and get out there in the cold weather!

My running buddy and I got our outfits together for our 5K! Remember it's called the Reindeer Run, so we did Christmas theme! Here's some pictures:

Me tie dying

More dunking!
Headband with little light bulbs. $1 at Target!

Socks :)
Christmas Story boxers! My running buddy hasn't seen the movie?!
Hope you all enjoyed Thanksgiving with family and friends! Now we only have to wait until Christmas!!!!!

Thoughtful Thursday!

I'm on time...take note of this! It rarely happens that I have any time on Thursdays to do this post, but I'm not going to let you down!

Some things I'm going to be thinking about this weekend:
Can't wait for this!!
  1. Two of my roommates and a friend are heading down to FL to visit my other roommate who's doing an internship at Disney until January! I was totally going to go with, but finances and timing did not work out. They will have such a great time and many many pictures! I expect to hear A LOT from them!
  2. I'm tie dying long sleeve shirts with my running buddy Rebecca tomorrow!!! I'm so excited to do this! My mom and I picked out my accessories for my first 5K at Target, so Rebecca and I decided to make some unique shirts as well...You'll have to wait until race day to see out get ups...which is about 2 weeks and 2 days away!!!!!!!!!
  3. I think I'm going to go on this Habitat for Humanity build on Saturday with this group called Lutheran Campus Ministries. My roommate Missy and I have been going to the gatherings on Monday evenings for the past few weeks or so and we really enjoy it. They have members from different churches around the area come and cook a big meal for everyone that comes and then we have discussions, devotionals, and song singing after we eat. I'm meeting so many people that I would have never met before, so I'm really really enjoying it!
  4. Other than all these things, I plan on working on some homework and just relax!
  5. Oh could I have forgotten! MY CAMPUS ONLY HAS 2 DAYS OF SCHOOL THIS NEXT WEEK!!!! We get the Wednesday off before Thanksgiving on Thurday, so we score big time!! I'm so excited for all the food on Thanksgiving (in moderation of course)!
Ok, so that's my ramblings! I'll be back sometime Saturday to share some pictures (hopefully)!

This is going to take some getting used to...

RIP Blackberry
My post title is related to my Blackberry, not my running antics! Can we all just take a moment of silence to honor my Blackberry Tour...I know how dramatic of me, but I loved that thing! I should have known something was going to happen since the last couple weeks, the home row lights stayed on constantly. Well last Thursday it finally shut down...for good!!! I loved the convenience of having the internet and being able to check my emails on my phone in between classes, but now that life is all over!

My new phone...mourning my old phone
I have a new phone and it's the Samsung Intensity which was about $100 and doesn't have the data plan, which is good because I'm saving my dad an extra $30 a month. The Verizon lady was trying to sell my dad and I a brand new Blackberry for $149, which I didn't see reasonable since my contract is up in January of 2012 and I could even get a free phone then with renewing my account. I got my old Blackberry Tour for free, so BUYING a new one was out of the question. So now I'm adjusting to T9word (though I have a slide out keyboard, but it's spread out and clumsy to text on), no games, no internet, no email, no with that please be patient since I don't have any device that allows me to share any pictures with you since my old digital camera is not working either. My Samsung phone came with a USB cord, so I'm trying to figure out how to share pictures from my phone. So from now on I may just have to use Google images.

I've still been running, though now I brought back my iPod from home which is super old school (circa 2005). I remember when I was working for $40/paycheck back when I was 16 and saving up for one. That's when they first came out and I think I paid $250 for an iPod Nano! Well I updated my songs with some Ke$sha, Owl City, and some other more modern music, so I'm set! It's such a different experience running with the music since I feel like I'm going much faster with the beats.

I have some running on my schedule tomorrow down at the trail with my running buddy...and my iPod!!

Thoughtful Thursday!

I'm just in time to post my Thursday post! With 15 minutes to spare until it's FRIDAY!!! So here are my thoughts:

  1. Sorry I took some photos on my run today of some fallen trees on the trail, but my Blackberry is acting up! The screen won't even turn on, just pure BLACK! I've tried everything like taking the battery out to reboot it, a hard shut down, charging it, and everything else under the sun!! I guess I'll have to take it to Verizon to fix it!
  2. I'm going home this weekend!! Since I won't be going home for Thanksgiving (I'm going to my aunt's house in Kansas), I decided it would be nice to grab a few things from home. And get some leftover food or groceries! Plus I want to start looking for some Xmas/reindeer accessories for my upcoming 5k!
  3. I had sooo much fun at the Tri-Sigma sisterhood! Like I said before we had a challenge day, like the MTV show If You Really Knew Me, and it was super AMAZING! We broke up into small groups and told something no one would know about us. We all felt much closer once we got back into the big group discussion.
  4. I don't have much planned for this weekend: a movie night with a couple of my friends, babysitting my nephews, running, sleeping in, eating home cooked meals, sleeping in my comfy bed, and just enjoying the comforts of home! I may go through some old pictures and scan them so maybe I could share with all of you?! If I find enough time or get bored enough I will definitely do this!
  5. I'm thinking tomorrow is going to be an easy day since we are watching a movie in my Organizational Leadership class, so I can just throw on some sweats tomorrow and chill!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Fridays!!
  6. My goal this weekend is to just enjoy time with my family and a couple of my friends, since it will be awhile until I actually go home. The next time will be Xmas break which is in the middle of December!
I will be back sometime this weekend! Have a happy and healthy weekend!

Good thing Wednesday is over!

This is the construction on my campus route
More construction...right on the sidewalk
I'm soooo happy that Wednesday is all over! The day dragged on, but I find my time slipping away fast when the evening hours come?! I mean I was literally falling asleep on the couch at 7pm!

I ended up dragging myself off the couch to go running (which I was going to do after work at 4pm, but the sun sets earlier now and I didn't want to be on the trail). I thought it would be great to go running walking around my campus route, which didn't end up the way I planned. The plan was to run the same amount of time I would have down at the trail, but I ended up mostly walking since it had gotten very windy...excuses, excuses...blah, blah, blah! I ended up running for about 6 minutes total and thought about just heading to the outdoor track (with no lights, so people couldn't see me...haha), but there was already a few runners on their, so I continued around campus. It was a GREAT change from the usual trail, though it was TRYING to rain on me! I went for a total of 30:01:18. After my run I was thinking about doing squats and lunges, but that took too much effort (again with the excuses!). Maybe I should have taken a look at my Inspirtation Page. Though for some odd reason I had enough energy to clean the counter and stove top since there was NASTY food all over it from dinner!
Love Windex Multi-Surface! Get's the job done!

I'm super excited for our Tri-Sigma sisterhood tomorrow because we are having Challenge Day. It's going to be like the MTV show If You Really Knew Me and should be impactful! I'll update you with the details tomorrow!

Also today I started this writing journal extra credit thing for my Recruitment and Selection class, which makes me write for 15 minutes for 6 consecutive days about my everyday actions. All I know is that this Grad student is doing this for his project, plus the professor is rewarding us with extra credit, and that's all it took for me to sign the waiver!
Pecan Pie (sorry I already started eating it)

More of my thoughts tomorrow...

Oh our run was...INTENSE (for us anyway)

Today I went to the trail with my running buddy to really get serious on our training! She was in the same mind set as me, so we really worked ourselves hard today! We did a quick 4 minute warm up and then just start jogging. Well we were both asking if we were doing fine or if we wanted to walk, but both of us felt great (and not too winded either!). We ended up running for 10 straight minutes and got to the mile marker in that amount of time. After our tiring 10 minute run (the longest we've run without walking) we decided to walk for 3 minutes, just so we could catch our breath. The gas line people were oh so kind to flag the sides of the trails where there gas pipes were, so Rebecca and I used those to do our intervals back to the start. We did about 4 more running intervals, all 2 minutes each(or using the flags) and both of us sprinted to the bridge the last 20 seconds. Very surprisingly we felt great (sweaty and huffing), but we were really excited that we didn't feel crappy after ward.

I want to drink 3 of these a day!
My goal of increasing my water intake has not been going so well. Today I only had one full water bottle and had every opportunity to drink more, but I was just doing all these little tasks which made the day just fly by! Tomorrow I will for sure try to drink more since I'll be gone from the house from 10am-6pm by conveniently filling it up on campus (but only from the soda fountain water spout since they have the best water)! I need to consciously make an effort to guzzle, guzzle, guzzle especially since my facial skin has been soooo dehydrated and looks very blah! My lips have gotten much better, but I still feel like the water intake issue is definitely what's causing my skin to go haywire!

53 Running Commandments

Steph in Hebrew on the left, brochure in the middle, Steph in Russian on right
Before I share the 53 Running Commandments I'm going to tell you about the international fair I went to in Eau Claire. My roommate wanted to go to get extra credit in on of her classes so I tagged along. It was super fun and there was so much food(wasn't free) and learning to be done. Many "countries" were there and we had a brochure to get stamped proving that we went (I did one for my friend who couldn't go). There was traditional dances like belly dancing and Irish dancers, different games and music from the different cultures, and tons of authentic food! I thoroughly enjoyed all the different smells though we only bought some desserts from Germany, the Jewish people, and then I tried some free tea from Vietnam.

I found these commandments on That Lynn Girl's blog and thought it would be nice to share.
53 Running Commandments
1. Don’t be a whiner. Nobody likes a whiner, not even other whiners.
2. Walking out the door is often the toughest part of a run.
3. Don’t make running your life. Make it part of your life.
4. During group training runs, don’t let anyone run alone.
5. Keep promises, especially ones made to yourself.
6. When doing group runs, start on time no matter who’s missing.
7. The faster you are the less you should talk about your times.
8. Keep a quarter in your pocket. One day you’ll need to call for a ride.
9. Don’t compare yourself to other runners.
10. All runners are equal, some are just faster than others.
11. Keep in mind that the later in the day it gets, the more likely it is that you won’t run.
12. For a change of pace, get driven out and then run back.
13. If it was easy, everybody would be a runner.
14. When standing in starting lines, remind yourself how fortunate you are to be there.
15. Getting out of shape is much easier than getting into shape.
16. A bad day of running still beats a good day at work.
17. Talk like a runner. “Singlets” are worn on warm days. “Tank tops” are worn to the beach.
18. Don’t talk about your running injuries. People don’t want to hear about your sore knee or black toe.
19. Don’t always run alone.
20. Don’t always run with people.
21. Approach running as if the quality of your life depended on it.
22. No matter how slow you run it is still faster than someone sitting on a couch.
23. Keep in mind that the harder you run during training, the luckier you’ll get during racing.
24. Races aren’t just for those who can run fast.
25. There are no shortcuts to running excellence.
26. The best runs sometimes come on days when you didn’t feel like running.
27. Be modest after a race, especially if you have reason to brag.
28. If you say, “Let’s run this race together,” then you must stay with that person no matter how slow.
29. Think twice before agreeing to run with someone during a race.
30. There is nothing boring about running. There are, however, boring people who run.
31. Look at hills as opportunities to pass people.
32. Distance running is like cod liver oil. At first it makes you feel awful, then it makes you feel better.
33. Never throw away the instructions to your running watch.
34. Don’t try to outrun dogs.
35. Don’t trust runners who show up at races claiming to be tired, out of share, or not feeling well.
36. Don’t wait for perfect weather. If you do, you won’t run very often.
37. When tempted to stop being a runner, make a list of the reasons you started.
38. Never run alongside very old or very young racers. They get all of the applause.
39. Without goals, training has no purpose.
40. During training runs, let the slowest runner in the group set the pace.
41. The first year in a new age group offers the best opportunity for trophies.
42. Go for broke, but be prepared to be broken.
43. Spend more time running on the roads than sitting on the couch.
44. Make progress in your training, but progress at your own rate.
45. “Winning” means different things to different people.
46. Unless you make your living as a runner, don’t take running too seriously.
47. Runners who never fail are runners who never try anything great.
48. Never tell a runner that he or she doesn’t look good in tights.
49. Never confuse the Ben-Gay tube with the toothpaste tube.
50. Never apologize for doing the best you can.
51. Preventing running injuries is easier than curing them.
52. Running is simple. Don’t make it complicated.
53. Running is always enjoyable. Sometimes, though, the joy doesn’t come until the end of the run.

As promised I'm posting a 5k related post! So I just looked at my blog countdown and there's 27 days until the 2010 Reindeer Run in Minneapolis!!!! I can't believe that it's coming up sooooo fast! It seems like just yesterday Rebecca and I decided to start training!

Now it's time to buckle down and get some serious training in!

I'm adding another day of running to my normal routine and then walking on the days I have "off." I don't have any rest days since walking is pretty easy to accomplish and I'll be going for about 20-25 minutes.

Some things I want to work on the next few weeks (some are not related to running!):
  • Run at least 18-20 minutes each session (exception of a couple seconds of walking).
  • Drink at least 2 full water bottles (25oz) a day (way under recommended ounces a day): can you say Operation Hydration!
  • Get some holiday gear for my 5k on December 4th. I'm thinking running tights, cute holiday boxers, fake antlers, knee high holiday socks, and maybe some sort of cute shirt.
  • Stop chewing my finger nails and cuticles. I don't want to have my fingers look ratty when I'm interviewing for full time jobs.
  • Only eat 2 desserts a week=no more Nutty Bars...I need to give them away!
  • Catch up on all my blog subscriptions and my Cosmos!
  • FINALLY take my training very seriously these next few weeks!!!!!!
DON'T FORGET: turn your clocks back an hour starting at 2am tonight!! YAY for an extra hour of sleep!

One day late: Thoughtful Thursday!

I was super busy lazy yesterday and didn't get around to posting my usual Thursday post! So here it is:
Excuse my name...I share a fridge with my roomies
  1. My parents left for West Virginia today so my dad can do his marathon in Huntington, WV on Sunday! I wish him the best of luck and I know he'll do great! I could use a little mini vacation and would love to go on these trips with my parents except I have school and work...BOO!!!
  2. I'm working a 2 and a half hour shift tomorrow just for the heck of it because what else am I going to do?! Well I mean I could sleep in, but I sort of get to since my shift starts at 10am. Oh well, more $ for me!
  3. This day is almost over! I have almost lost my cell phone, today's schedule was haywire because I picked up a 4 hour shift, I got a bubbling blister on my heel from my boots, the trail was super busy with track stars and a TRUCK, work went by sooo slowly, etc, etc!
  4. I am so in love with the hummus I  bought yesterday at WalMart! I'm trying the Roasted Red Pepper flavor and am already DEVOURING the container! I had it on my egg tortilla rollup this morning and have also been enjoying it with pretzels...Yum!!!
  5. I find myself working on some more homework this weekend, except I'm going to try to finish it tonight and tomorrow since I don't want to wait until Sunday so that I can just use that day to rest!
  6. My first 5k is rapidly approaching! I'll post a special freak out post tomorrow with goals and am going to start cracking down and getting my butt into SERIOUS gear!
So gross!
Ok enough of my ranting and thoughts! I went to the trail today to get some running done! Sorry I don't have any pictures from my run because I forgot my phone, ugh! It was a bit chilly (I forgot to actually check the temp, but I guesstimate it was about 36-37 degrees). The air was kind of hard to breath, but I quickly adapted because I really wanted to work out hard. My shins were screaming in pain as I ran the first 5 minutes after warming up! The pain quickly faded and I kept on with my intervals. I ran for about a total of 15 and a half minutes, which I felt was great since the trail was very crowded with college track stars and tons of bikes! There was literally a pickup truck driving down the trail when I first started...I was like "for real?!" Of course this would have been happening today! Considering the hectic happenings at the trail, I finished strong and felt GREAT!

I hope you all enjoy the rest of your night! I will be back tomorrow for a post related to my first 5K, AHHH!

Icing my ankle with a bag of peas
I was dead tired today! My roommates and I hit the town last night, yes on a Tuesday, but for a very good reason...our friend Jason's 22nd birthday! We went to his house and drank some wine and finally headed to the bars at 11pm. Well it was a short night because he was done at 12:30am and we all had to help walk him home (and make sure he made it to his bed without killing himself on the stairs going to his room). We walked to our house which is like a block away and I needed to take a shower considering the amount of beer that had spilled all over my clothes! So I didn't get to bed until 1:30-2am then I had to wake up at 6:30 for my 8am class. I had a 2 hour break at 10am which I spent sleeping so that I could be awake for work! It was weird to say I went out on a Tuesday, but we all had a great time and laughed at the funny things that happened! For some reason I woke up today and my ankle was super sore and swollen so I don't know what happened there. Along with the sore ankle, my leg muscles have felt really tight and painful so I stretched out really well today though that didn't do much for them.

After the first mile...and I wasn't dying either!
Blinded by the light...literally!
Ok enough about my social life! Now I went running today and it felt AMAZING after not having done anything the last few days! The weather was nice when I started out, but then it got very windy and cloudy with gray skies which made the last half of the run sort of miserable because of my tiredness. I did a quick 5 minute warm up walk working up to my running speed. I ran for about 5 minutes and took a quick minute walk break. After that I ran the rest of the way to the 1 mile marker which was about another 7 minutes away. I reached the mile marker, took a picture of myself and continued walking for about 2 more minutes. From there I ended up doing a couple 1 minutes intervals, one 3 minute run, a 2 minute walk, and then finished with a 2 and a half minute run. I took the runs down to the marker very slow so I wouldn't use all my available energy and the runs back were a little more intense. So after my confusing recap of my run I ran a total of 19 minutes and some odd seconds out of the total workout time of 28:24:33.
Gray skies at the end of my run

You can do so many activities in your SNUGGIE!
I'm loving this week since I had my finance test on Monday and I haven't really had any other homework, so it gives me time to catch up on reading blogs and the magazines that I'm so backlogged on! Plus I can get to bed earlier which is such a great bonus!!!! Ah, the life of a college senior!

Is anyone else dealing with unbelievable chapped lips and utterly dry skin?!?!

Oh where the time goes!

Alien greeting us at the haunted house!
OMG I just turned my calendar to November! I can't believe how fast these first couple months of school went! On Friday night my roommate, her sister, and I ended up going to the town next to us so we could go to a Haunted House! Let me tell you, I don't like scary things and this was SUPER SCARY!! I pretty much held onto my roommate for dear life and had my eyes closed 90% of the time. It was a good $3 spent because when I did have my eyes open, the decorations were AMAZING! Halloween is over and I had a blast at my sister and brother-in-law's party! Sorry I only have one picture because I was relying on others to take pictures since I usually use my phone, though I didn't keep it on me. I ended up being Farrah from Teen Mom and dressed normal along with a baby doll whose arm i stuck in my pocket. The night was really fun, but my cousin and I didn't fall asleep until 5:30am. We only got about 3 hours of sleep until everyone came into the living room to talk. Then I drove the 1hour and 45 mins back to school...dead tired!!

Becky(bride from Oct. 16th), Me, my cousin Rachel
After dropping off my cousin, my aunt and uncle asked if I wanted to take some of their leftovers, since they don't eat them, and I kindly took them(hey I'm a college student, I would never pass up free food). They gave me beef stew, meatballs, Nutty Bars, chili, and buttermilk biscuits. All which are homemade(besides the meatballs), so I will have meals all figured out for this week making it easier for me to just throw it in the microwave without preparation! I LOVE leftovers, especially when they're homemade!! I would have taken a to-go container of the chili at my sister's, but I totally forgot about it (it's my mom's recipe!).

I didn't run today, but I took a short 20 minute walk. For some reason I was super tired today and ended up taking a 2 hour nap after work. I woke up and didn't feel like doing ANYTHING! I plan on running on Wednesday and hopefully I'll actually follow through...which I don't see it being a problem!

Thoughtful Thursday!

My face painting from Witches Night Out
Oh thank goodness it's Thursday! Does anyone else feel like this week was dragging on?! I think the no class thing on Wednesday really messed with the timing. I haven't done any outside exercise because of the windiness and the rain, so I've been cooped up for the past few days! I'm planning on getting back to running tomorrow!

I had such a fun time tonight with my sorority sisters at Witches Night Out! It's a celebration downtown with about 15 stores where they have specials and sales while offering appetizers and hot beverages all for free! I even got my face painted! Made me feel like a little kid again :)

So here's what I'm thinking about for the weekend:
  1. My sister and brother-in-law are having a Halloween Bash this Saturday in Rochester, MN so I'm super excited! I'm not sure what my costume is yet, but my friend and I are going to scramble and do something last minute! I'll post pictures when I get back!
  2. I have a midterm presentation and a 3-4 page paper for Organizational Leadership on Monday and a Business Finance test that day as well! Of course this would only happen on Halloween weekend!
  3. I'm ACTIVELY looking for business administration/human resource internships! I'm currently looking online, but if anyone has any suggestions of finding something, I'll take it into consideration.
  4. Hopefully the weather this weekend will be nice. I see it's supposed to be clear skies and a little warmer at least on Saturday (I only know this because we may have a bonfire at my sister's).
Here's pictures from the past couple days. Enjoy:
Creepy fake bed at Fleet Farm with Justin Bieber and Taylor Lautner posters! And a creepy child size doll tucked in with an eye mask!!!!

I've been looking up online how to do some of these things, but I'm not good with HTML codes! PLEASE HELP!
  1. Okay so I don't like the white borders around my pictures! How do I fix this?!
  2. I want to customize my blog head with my own pictures. How do I do this?

Oh the weather outside is frightful...

All bundled up for the weather
...but the fire is so delightful (I only wish my townhouse had a fireplace, but it stays pretty warm without the heat on). This rainy, windy weather is so miserable! I didn't want to risk bringing an umbrella to work and class, so I nixed the idea and good thing I did! I would have been Mary Poppins flying away with my umbrella, haha! On my way up to class it felt like they're was a tornado coming because it was soooo windy! Good thing I don't to leave the house anymore today (well maybe a short walk tonight...only if the wind dies down a bit), but I have a paper to start and a midterm to study for on Thursday.

More reading to catch up on!
My class from 3-5:45pm was canceled so I figured blogging would give me some sort of distraction from the looming homework that I must start once I finish this! One thing good that has happened today is that my Fitness magazine came except for the fact that I haven't gotten a chance to catch up on last month's issue. This is true too for my Cosmo subscription (I'm about 3 issues behind). I've been so busy with school, blogging, and reading blogs that I've forgotten all about my magazine!

Rainy+Windy=One gloomy day and an over the top run!

At the start of the trail
I woke up bright not so bright and early this morning at 6:30am. When the sun rose hid behind the clouds, I knew that the whole day was going to be gloomy. Classes were the usual and my 2 hour shift at work was slow. I enjoyed applying to jobs which wore me out, so I took an hour nap and when I woke up it was just starting to drizzle. My running partner and I were planning on running around 4 pm, so we headed down to the trail with the drizzle still continuing. "WE ARE DEDICATED" as I kept saying. "We need to train in all elements!" We did the usual 5 minute warm up and then we did something we haven't done before...we just ran until we felt like we couldn't run anymore. Well we only ran for 7 minutes straight and then walked the rest of the way to the 1 mile sign. We continued walking and then ended up running for about 6 more minutes towards the end. Though we were both kinda miserable running in the drizzle, we both felt AMAZING!!
Gloomy, gloomy day

Tonight I was supposed to start on my Organizational Leadership group paper, but I'm going to leave that until tomorrow when my night class is canceled! Lots of homework to do before Thursday though our school is GENIUS and gives us Advisement Day, where we don't have any classes and you meet with your advisor about your schedule next semester. Advisement Day is a Stout tradition where many kids end up going out and sleep in the next day, though sadly this year I will be working a 4 hour shift then working on homework :(

It's still raining, so I'm headed to bed and I can sleep in tomorrow until 8:30am(oh so late! Can you sense the sarcasm?!). I'm going to let the drizzling rain on my window lull me to sleep! Good night, happy running :)

My continued love of PUMPKINS!

You are all so lucky to be hearing from me two days in a row!! But remember it's only because I am doing NOTHING (besides homework) this weekend! I even took a "personal" day from school (well not really: my 8am class was optional and for my 9:05am class I was planning on going, but I woke up with a major headache and body aches so I headed back to bed). I was just thinking about how many pumpkin things I have and gathered them all (pictured below fun facts)
I thought these were cute!
So in honor of my mild love and obsessiveness about PUMPKINS here's some fun facts:
A pumpkin is really a squash?
It is! It's  a member of the Cucurbita family which includes squash and cucumbers.

That pumpkins are grown all over the world?
Six of the seven continents can grow pumpkins including Alaska! Antarctica is the only continent that they won't grow in.

That the "pumpkin capital" of the world is Morton, Illinois?
This self proclaimed  pumpkin capital is where you'll find the home of the Libby corporation's pumpkin industry.

That the  Irish brought this tradition of pumpkin carving to America?
The tradition originally started with the carving of turnips. When the Irish immigrated to the U.S., they found pumpkins a plenty and they were much easier to carve for their ancient holiday.

Fun Facts About The Pumpkin!
  • Pumpkins contain potassium and Vitamin A.
  • The largest pumpkin pie ever made was over five feet in diameter and weighed over 350 pounds. It used 80 pounds of cooked pumpkin, 36 pounds of sugar, 12 dozen eggs and took six hours to bake.
  • In early colonial times, pumpkins were used as an ingredient for the crust of pies, not the filling.
  • Pumpkins were once recommended for removing freckles and curing snake bites.
  • The largest pumpkin ever grown weighed 1,140 pounds.
  • The Connecticut field variety is the traditional American pumpkin.
  • Pumpkins are 90 percent water.
  • Eighty percent of the pumpkin supply in the United States is available in October.

Everything in my life that is pumpkin! Slight obsession!

Thoughtful Thursday!!!!

Ugh another pumpkin pie blizzard!
IT'S THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY...AND IT'S ON TIME! So the homework gods have given me a temporary break tonight with homework so you get rewarded with this post!!

We had meet Big Sis tonight for sorority and it's been a long time coming, since the beginning of September! All the Big Sises(sp?) went and hid in separate rooms and the little sises had to solve a riddle to come find us! I was hiding in the dark and I think my Little Jenny was a little freaked out! But anyway we exchanged gifts and took some "family" pictures!

Big(Me) and Little(Jenny
I don't have too many thoughts for this weekend because I've committed to doing NOTHING with my roommate Shayna! We are going to catch up on some movies, sit around in sweats, and do our homework. This weekend is much needed since I've been running around the past 3 weekends!

  1. I'm so excited to catch up on homework and do NOTHING(besides a run tomorrow afternoon)! I probably won't even shower (ew gross, I know) but I'm going to be a couch potato!
  2. My big brother is running a marathon this weekend in Mankato, MN so I wish him the best of luck! I would love to go, but with my schedule this past month I need a weekend off. He's going to do amazing and I can't wait to hear how he does!
  3. I have a group midterm looming over my head and it's due on October 29th, so some of this weekend will be used to work on that. I hate group projects, especially when the professor doesn't give you time to work on it IN CLASS! But I guess I have to deal with it and suck it up! Oh and I have a business finance take home test that's due on Monday, so my weekend away will be spent working on that,UGH!!
  4. This 3rd bullet point is unnecessary because I've already mentally checked out for the weekend!
Enjoy whatever your heart desires this weekend, I know I'm looking forward to my relaxing weekend!

Weekend recap (as promised) and goofy running!

Running buddy...she secretly hated me today!
Stretching after a hard workout!
First off I met up with my running buddy down at the trail! We did the usual 1 mile down and back, but I had warned her that I was planning on stepping it up and really challenging ourselves! I thoroughly enjoyed the hard work out because our 5k is getting closer and closer, but we have to start increasing our actual running minutes. I was in charge of the stopwatch so there would be times where I would say we were running for 2 1/2 minutes and we would actually run for 3 1/2 to 4 minutes (muhahahaha...*evil laugh*). I felt like a drill sergent, but I had warned Rebecca before we left. At the end we were both exhausted, which is such a good thing!!!! I honestly felt like we accomplished a new feat. And it only starts from today, so in my future runs I need to stay focused and I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

As I've been promising for like 4-5 days, I finally had time tonight to add the photos from the weekend of one of my oldest friends wedding (we've been friends for 18 years!).
